Since ancient times an important part of the Greek economy was the trade of agricultural products. Greek wine had a leading role in exports to the Mediterranean as well as the Black Sea.

In Greece there are many wine regions such as the Peloponnese, Crete, Evea, Macedonia, Thessaly, Thrace, as well as the  islands of the Aegean and Ionian Sea and  the Dodecanese.
